Photo Elysée is home to one of the world’s most significant photography collections, comprising more than one million objects spanning nearly two centuries of photography. It includes complete archives of photographers such as Sabine Weiss, Jan Groover, Ella Maillart, René Burri and Nicolas Bouvier, making Photo Elysée one of the leading centers for the preservation, study and promotion of photography.
One New Acquisition Revealed Every Day. At Paris Photo, Photo Elysée presents one newly-acquired work each day, selected from its latest acquisitions. This daily display highlights a living collection that continues to grow through discoveries, research and the ongoing study of both historical and contemporary works.
To mark the Bicentenary of Photography, Photo Elysée is preparing a landmark volume dedicated to its collection, to be published in 2027 by Editions Noir sur Blanc.
Photo Elysée & photography
Photo Elysée is a museum rooted in the history of photography and oriented towards its futures. It collects, preserves and studies images from past and present, from paper to screen, from the traditional photo graphic print to immersive installation, while championing a plurality of voices and perspectives. A place of preservation, creation and reflec tion, it invites visitors to read and reread images, explore new narratives and consider their impact on our lives. A major force in photography in Switzerland and internationally, it is a place where images meet, tell stories and are continually reimagined. Photo Elysée, a museum where every photograph finds its place. Located in the heart of the Plateforme 10 arts district in Lausanne, Swit zerland, Photo Elysée explores photography as a way of seeing and representing the world, fosters visual literacy and enriches the history of the medium through new narratives. For more than 40 years, the mu seum has highlighted the richness and diversity of photographic prac tices through its exhibitions, publications, collection and research, while actively supporting contemporary creation. Photo Elysée, the Cantonal Museum for Photography, is a museum of the Canton de Vaud, managed by the Plateforme 10 Foundation.
