About

Todd Webb & Eugène Atget: Senses of Place puts in dialogue two masters of urban photography. Introduced to Atget’s work by Berenice Abbott, Webb felt affirmed and inspired in his vision. He came to view Atget, as many European and North American photographers did, as something of a guiding spirit, modernist yet committed to social description. Key works by Webb from New York and Paris sit alongside a selection of Atget's haunting and enigmatic views of the French capital. The generational difference is stark, yet the shared sensibility is profound, and timeless. Senses of Place is curated by David Company for MUUS Collection.
