Since 2018, Paris Photo has entrusted students from GOBELINS Paris with a unique mission: to capture this major international event through photography and video. They are invited to go behind the scenes during installation and immerse themselves in the bustle of the fair beneath the vast vaulted roof of the Grand Palais. Throughout the event, they develop a distinctive artistic vision.

This visual chronicle reflects their individual sensibilities and the encounters they make. It features portraits of artists, gallery owners and visitors. It also captures moments both planned and spontaneous.

This year, two new projects have enriched the collaboration. The students were given carte blanche to create a series of images exploring the theme of travel. They worked with smartphones provided by Huawei, Paris Photo’s Global Partner.

The prestigious Ritz Paris also invited a group of students to bring a fresh and sensitive perspective to this legendary Parisian hotel. A selection of their images will be exhibited in the hotel’s salons. These spaces host the Paris Photo VIP lounge.

GOBELINS Paris is a leading school of visual arts. It is part of the Paris Île-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Its photography department was founded 60 years ago. The school also offers programmes in animation, design and video games.

GOBELINS Paris is a key player in the cultural and creative industries. It specialises in digital creation and the visual arts. Today, it prepares students for careers spanning every stage of image creation, from concept to production. Its programmes cover still images, animation, interactive experiences and immersive media.

Huawei x Les Gobelins

As part of the HUAWEI XMAGE Awards, Huawei has partnered with Gobelins Paris, giving nine students carte blanche to explore the theme “Shared Experience”. Equipped with Huawei smartphones, they spent the summer creating a photographic series offering a sensitive and personal perspective on the world around them. Their work joins the Student Section of the HUAWEI XMAGE Awards, bringing together 40 schools from around the world this year.
