About

Embarking on the exhibition Traversée du fragment manquant is like following the flow of water, memory, and time. At three years old, Raphaëlle Peria boarded a barge with her father and sisters. This vague, almost erased memory resurfaced thirty years later when she discovered a long-forgotten photo album.

These family archives became the starting point for a new artistic project, where the personal meets the universal. The artist returned to these sites of memory and carefully worked over the images to reveal a deeper reality: the plane trees along the Canal du Midi, now threatened by Ceratocystis platani, an invisible fungus that slowly eats them from within. Their cracked trunks speak of a declining ecosystem, where beauty and disappearance coexist. Moved by this gradual erosion of the landscape, Raphaëlle Peria draws on her childhood memories to reflect on the fragility of life, capturing the passage of time and the marks it leaves behind.

For this new presentation at Paris Photo, the artist unveils a series of previously unseen works. They continue her sensitive exploration of fragments, navigating between memory, absence and persistence.
