After studying Law and Music, Shiny Vallenas turned to photography, bringing with her an analytical approach to systems of representation. Her practice moves between portraiture and still life across editorial and commercial contexts, while developing a research-based investigation into artificial intelligence, which she approaches as a laboratory for vision.
Drawing on pornographic and erotic imagery, visual archives, and the biases embedded in generative models, her work examines how desire is constructed, performed, and circulated through images.
The project
The visual language of pornography has profoundly reshaped the representation of women in contemporary image culture. From the porno chic aesthetics of the early 2000s to the clean girl imagery circulating on social media, the same close-ups, fragmented bodies, and visual codes continue to reappear.
Because desire is inherent to the image itself, it has adapted to contemporary forms of censorship, re-emerging through beauty routines, mukbang videos, and viral trends. Combining staged photography with AI-generated imagery, the project reconstructs visual dispositifs borrowed from casting sessions, adult content, and the language of advertising. In doing so, it reveals formal correspondences between the body, the animal, and mechanisms of objectification, exposing what images gradually normalize through endless circulation.
