Lóa Fenzy (b. 1998, Iceland) is a visual artist working with photography and moving image. Her work explores identity, image culture, and social performance through staged situations and contemporary visual language. After completing a BA in Visual Communication from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2022, she worked across Iceland’s cultural sector as an art director, graphic designer, and image-maker. She is currently pursuing an MA in Photography at ÉCAL.
The project
Remy is a moving-image work situated between constructed documentary and durational performance. Using casting and rehearsal as both methodology and form, the project examines how intimacy, care, authority, and masculinity are performed and negotiated through representation.
The work begins by inviting a group of middle-aged men to audition for the role of my absent father. What initially appears as a familiar casting process gradually unfolds into rehearsals, staged encounters, and improvised situations where performers are asked to inhabit an emotionally charged role. Through repetition, direction, and role-play, the project creates a space in which performance and lived experience become increasingly difficult to separate.
Rather than searching for a replacement father figure, the work observes how roles of care, authority, and emotional proximity are rehearsed, embodied, and projected between strangers.
