Jonas Glanz (*1997) is a photographer working between staged portraiture, documentary photography and fashion. His practice examines how bodies are shaped by social codes, digital culture, beauty ideals, and systems of value. Moving between raw encounter and constructed image, Glanz uses gesture, posture, styling, and presence as signs of pressure, resistance, and self-invention. His work explores masculinity, subculture, vulnerability, and the space between performed image and physical body.
The project
One Day I am gonna be a man looks at the male body at the point where it becomes a task. Starting from looksmaxxing, the project examines a digital culture in which appearance is measured, corrected, ranked, and treated as social value. Face, skin, hair, muscles, posture, and gesture become signs to be read and improved.
Through staged photography, fashion images, still life, and video, the work moves inside this economy of desire and discipline without simply reproducing its ideals. It draws from online subcultures, bodybuilding, classical beauty, cosmetic procedures, myth, and everyday masculine performance.
The figures appear sculpted but unstable, powerful and exposed, seductive and artificial. Masculinity becomes less a fixed identity than an image under construction: a costume, a wound, a fantasy of control, and a promise the body can never fully keep.
