Eva Sustar (b. 2001, Croatia) is a visual artist working in the field of photography. She completed her undergraduate studies in Cinematography at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb and is currently based in Arles, France, where in 2026 she obtained her master’s degree at the École nationale supérieure de la photographie (ENSP). Her practice focuses on constructed environments and transitional spaces where human intervention is suspended and materials remain in a state of anticipation.
The project
Out of Order is a project developed in tourist regions of southern France and Croatia, two territories shaped by seasonal fluctuations. Through these two contexts, the project examines different forms of territorial reinvestment: along the Croatian coast, where industrial structures remain embedded in the landscape, and in the Arles region, where change is driven by the growth of cultural tourism.
The project focuses on landscapes in a state of continuous transformation and on the ecological timescales within which these changes unfold. By using materials sourced from these construction sites as photographic supports, Out of Order brings together two parallel trajectories: the gradual exhaustion of tourist destinations and the transformation of the photographic image itself.
