Camille Cellier is a French photographer. After completing her medical studies in Lyon, she moved to Berlin and began studying photography at the Ostkreuz School of Photography in 2023. Working primarily with analogue processes, she explores the materiality of the medium through experimentation, with a particular interest in the RA-4 printing method. Her work focuses on the relationship between humans and the environment, drawing inspiration from nature, science fiction, and painting.
The project
There Will Come Soft Rains is a project in which I explore the irreversible transformation of the natural world by human activity. The work shows images of a speculative future in which Homo Sapiens has long vanished. The planet has endured, yet has been inevitably changed by the Anthropocene.
The materiality of the photographic medium is central to my practice. All images are shot on black and white film but the negatives are processed in the color darkroom using standard RA4 printing method. I work with a specific color palette and some images are created by combining multiple negatives in the enlarger. I use the physical qualities of the medium to evoke the scars left by human intervention.
Rather than predicting the future or offering answers, I use fiction to create spaces for awareness, reflection and poetic experience. I seek to establish an emotional connection with the viewer; one that encourages a reconsideration of our relationship with nature and our place in the cosmos.
