About

At a time when our daily lives are overwhelmed by virtual images, the département pour la préservation du patrimoine photographique of the City of Paris (D3P) has chosen this year to address the question of the materiality of photography by focusing on the single object. This singularity may result from processes that render each photograph impossible to reproduce identically, or may reflect practices that combine photography with the visual arts, incorporating materials or manual interventions.

Conservators and restorers accordingly regard each photograph as a unique object, considering all of its components during treatment: the image, the support, and the process.

On our stand, we will be presenting works from the early days of photography, from daguerreotypes and ambrotypes to instant photographs, while exploring new contemporary ways of expression and presentation, through the work of photographers and artists represented in the collections of the Fonds d'art contemporain - Paris collections or the Petit Palais.
