Artist Presentation
Nicoletta Deva Tortone (born in 1960) is an Italian artist. She started her career of photographer in Turin, working for fashion companies and theatres. In the late ‘80s she started focusing her work on the more intimate and personal sides of the human nature, in particular the world of emotions and sensations.
Her artworks often combine her present and her past, her photographs are manipulated, cut, modified, stitched together with her distinctive red thread. Often an image is presented with her negative, printed on an acetate sheet, to show a different point of view from which reality can be seen, a more unusual perspective capable of reserving surprises to the viewer. Humanity is at the heart of her creations, skilled blend of photography with interventions of painting and collage.
Her works have been exposed at major art fairs in Italy in the last 10 years, and at Paris Photo in 2025.
In 2023 she had published the book 9-8-1960 (her birth date), in a limited run of 100 copies, which collects works from the series Trasparenze and Griglie that she had created in 2022 and 2023. The book has been reprinted in an additional run of 100 copies for Paris Photo 2025.
She lives and works in Albenga, Italy.
She is represented by Alberto Damian Gallery.

Alberto Damian – Galerist
“When we met for the first time in June 2020, we immediately fell in “artistic love” with each other. Nicoletta lives and creates artworks with passion, authenticity and immediacy, without mental filters, she transmits positive energy to everyone she meets. All these personal characteristics that she embodies, linked with the uniqueness and originality of her artworks, pushed me to represent her and to support her work.”
