The municipal photographic heritage, established since the invention of photography in 1839, includes over 16 million photographs preserved in the museums, libraries, and archives of the City of Paris. These collections, of great historical, cultural, and artistic value, are maintained by the Atelier de Restauration et de Conservation des Photographies (ARCP), founded in 1983. The ARCP provides guidelines, restores valuable collections, and collaborates with Paris Photo to promote this exceptional heritage.
