PHOTOBOOK AWARDS 2017 : THE LAUREATES
Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation are pleased to announce the winners of the 2017 edition of the Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards.
The selection for Photography Catalogue of the Year is New Realities: Photography in the 19th Century by Mattie Boom and Hans Rooseboom (Rijiksmuseum/nai010).
Museum Bhavan by Dayanita Singh (Steidl) is the winner of PhotoBook of the Year.
Monsanto: A Photographic Investigation by Mathieu Asselin (Verlag Kettler) is the winner of $10,000 in the First PhotoBook category.
A Jurors’ Special Mention is also given to La Grieta (The Crack) by Carlos Spottorno and Guillermo Abril (Astiberri Ediciones).
Initiated in November 2012 by Aperture Foundation and Paris Photo, The PhotoBook Awards celebrate the photobook’s contribution to the evolving narrative of Photography.
Three prizes awarded in the following categories: First PhotoBook, PhotoBook of the Year, and Photography Catalogue of the Year. A final jury in Paris includes Krzysztof Candrowicz (artistic director, Triennal of photography Hamburg), Mitch Epstein (artist), Florencia Giordana Braun (director - Rolf Art Gallery, Buenos Aires), Nathalie Herschdorfer (director - Musée des Beaux-Arts, Le Locle), Cristiano Raimondi (head of development and international projects at the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco).
The winner for the First PhotoBook category will receive a $10,000 prize. The winners of the other two categories will each receive a commemorative award. The thirty-five shortlisted titles will are display during the fair and profiled in the 013 issue of The PhotoBook Review, a bi-annual publication created by Aperture and distributed during the Fair.
The winner of the First PhotoBook Prize will receive a $10,000 prize. A special distinction will be given to the winners of the PhotoBook of the Year Prize and the Photography Catalogue of the Year Prize.
