The Gallery opened in Seville in 1970. From the beginning the work of the Gallery has focused on two aims: to promote Spanish artists abroad and to bring the international art scene to Spain through very important exhibitions in Seville at the 70’s, with artists such as: Frank Stella, Diane Arbus, Richard Hamilton, Andy Warhol, Eduardo Chillida, Antoni Tapies, Millares, Rauschenberg… among others. Very quickly, the gallery became widely known throughout Spain. When democracy arrived to Spain (1975), the gallery began participating at fairs: Köln (1981), ArtBasel (1981), ArtChicago, ArtL.A., KunstRai and later, BaselMiami, FriezeLondon, ParisPhoto, Maco, Frieze New York, etc. Galería Juana de Aizpuru has also been promoting other significant projects like: Arco Madrid, in 1980 (whom first edition was in 1982), the BIACS Foundation (2003) for the production of the Seville Biennial with resounding success. In 1983 the gallery opened its branch in Madrid and in 2006, the Seville gallery was closed, continuing only in Madrid.
