ART+TEXT

Stand:

Since its foundation in 2014 Art+Text Budapest has established itself as a prominent for-profit gallery of the Eastern-European art scene. Based in the famous Bedő House, an exquisite example of Hungarian Art Nouveau architecture and once home to a remarkable private art collection, the gallery has brought numerous Hungarian and international exhibitions to the very heart of the Hungarian capital. Creating a bridge between the contemporary art scene in Hungary and the international art world is one of the main aims of Art+Text Budapest, which is reflected in our exhibition programme as well as in our publishing activity. The latter has led to the birth of seminal works like the extensive Neo-avant-garde Trends in Hungarian Art Photography, 1965-1984 by Sándor Szilágyi, alongside several essays and studies discussing Hungarian and regional post-war art history. By presenting these topics in English, we hope to spark the interest of an increasingly wide international audience, thereby bringing new dialogues to the contemporary art world. Art+Text Budapest boasts a rich exhibition programme which demonstrates the gallery’s passion for and dedication to contemporary artists from various generations and backgrounds. Exhibitions hosted by the gallery range from solo shows presenting cutting-edge work by young emerging artists from Hungary and abroad, to group exhibitions displaying the art of progressive masters from the 1960s-70s. As to the latter, the increasingly recognised 1970s, Art+Text Budapest represents and regularly exhibits key figures of the Hungarian avant-garde, such as Miklós Erdély, László Lakner or Krisztián Frey, and it has organised pivotal exhibitions such as the one reconstructing the famous 'Mirror' group show curated by László Beke in 1973. Within this period, our focus has been shifting increasingly towards the realm of photography, which is what we present in our artistic project at Paris Photo 2018.
