Foreigner: Migration into Europe 2015–2016

Self-published, London, 2016
Designed by Thomas Saxby

Be quick or be good, they say. This book is both: an urgent report on the current crises of migration across the Mediterranean, and a profound reflection on the subject too. Working under the name John Radcliffe Studio, photographer Daniel Castro Garcia and designer Tom Saxby document migrations from North Africa to Italy, and from the Middle East to Greece and through the Balkans, as well as the migrant camp in Calais, France, known as “the Jungle.” “The combination of black-and-white and color photographs and succinct writing is exemplary. The design of the book is elegant, incorporating vellum map overlays and cleanly typeset text, and serves the material exceptionally well. This book matters now,” states David Campany. “It will also become a significant historical record.” Foreigner was also shortlisted for the MACK First Book Award.
