Little North Road presents the story of an African community in Guangzhou, China, through a selection from the thousands of street portraits made by itinerant Chinese photographers Wu Yong Fu and Zeng Xian Fang. “Traub brings
a unique, visual approach to this story, finding a rare, human-scale perspective on the shifting tectonic plates of global relations.” Framing this story are Daniel Traub’s own photographs of the area, also known as “Chocolate City”; a series of essays delving into the sociological and economic contexts for the work; and profiles of Wu and Zeng. “The story of China’s increasing investment in various communities throughout Africa and the resulting cultural exchange is not often reported in Western media,” Martin adds. The combination of Traub’s expository images and the cast of characters introduced via Wu and Zeng sets the stage for a compelling larger narrative.
