PHOTOBOOK OF THE YEAR SHORTLIST: End.
End. D1, Dublin, 2016
Designed by Pony Ltd.
Conceived as an installation and publication about Dublin—the city and its population—End. engages several levels of perception via photography, music, graphic design, and, in exhibition form, dramatic installation. Christoph Wiesner comments, “The book expresses the vibrant simultaneity of a busy city.” Irish photographer Eamonn Doyle, a former music producer, worked with Niall Sweeney and David Donohoe to produce a project that encompasses the feeling of an installation: a leatherette slipcase holds thirteen individual items, including cahier-bound books, folded leporellos, a folded map, and a 7-inch vinyl record inside a folded poster. Some of the foldout photographs are printed with graphic overlays, Wiesner adds, providing a “satisfyingly architectural sense of the city.”
