The 2014 Paris Photo - Aperture Foundation PHOTOBOOK AWARDS


The fourth edition of the Awards has recognized three winners and one special mention in the three following categories:

– First PhotoBook : Hidden Islam by Nicoló Degiorgis
- PhotoBook of the Year: Imaginary Club by Olivier Sieber
- PhotoBook of the Year - special mention: Vytautas V. Stanionis for Photographs for Documents
- NEW CATEGORY: Photography Catalogue of the Year: Christopher Williams: The production Line of Happiness, & Printed in Germany.

The jurying of the short-listed books took place in New York. The jury included Julien Frydman, director of Paris Photo; Todd Hido photographer and photobook maker; Lesley A. Martin, publisher of the Aperture book program and of The PhotoBook Review; Mutsuko Ota, editorial director of IMA magazine; and Anne Wilkes Tucker, photography curator.
The initial jury made their selections from over 300 titles submitted to the fourth annual Paris Photo- Aperture Foundation Photobook Awards.

A final jury in Paris includes Quentin Bajac, The Joel and Anne Ehrenkranz Chief Curator, The Museum of Modern Art; Pierre Hourquet, independent curator; Rahaab Allana, Curator, The Alkazi Foundation for the Arts ; Sebastian Hau, Curator, and Cléo Charuet, freelance artistic director, graphic designer and director.

The winner of the first category First PhotoBook Prize will receive a 10,000$ prize. This choice will be made upon the photographic work, the quality of the sequence proposed, the relevance of the conception of the book as an object (graphic conception, editorial structure, quality of fabrication).

A special distinction will be given to the winners of The PhotoBook of the Year Prize and The Photography Catalogue of the Year Prize.

The selected works will be presented in THE PHOTOBOOK REVIEW 007, a bi-annual publication by Aperture that was launched at Paris Photo 2011. THE PHOTOBOOK REVIEW 007 will be available at the Fair.

After Paris Photo, the exhibition will travel to Aperture Gallery in New York from December 13, 2014 to January 29, 2015 and will tour after to the IMA Concept store and gallery in Tokyo, as well as other venues to be determined.
