Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation announce the 2016 edition of The Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards, celebrating the book’s contribution to the evolving narrative of photography.

AWARD CATEGORIES

THE FIRST PHOTOBOOK PRIZE 

A $10,000 prize will be awarded to the photographer(s)/artist(s) whose first finished, publicly available photobook is judged to be the best of the year. Twenty books from this category will be selected for the shortlist, presented to the Jury for the final selection and exhibited during Paris Photo.

THE PHOTOBOOK OF THE YEAR PRIZE 

This prize will be awarded to the photographer(s)/artist(s), and publisher responsible, for the photobook judged to be the best of the year. Ten books from this category will be selected for the shortlist, presented to the Jury for the final selection and exhibited during Paris Photo.

THE PHOTOGRAPHY CATALOGUE OF THE YEAR PRIZE

Awarded to the publication, publisher, and/or organizing institution responsible for the exhibition catalogue or museum publication judged to be the best of the year. Five books from this category will be selected for the shortlist, presented to the Jury for the final selection and exhibited during Paris Photo.

The shortlisted books, accompanied by the jury’s comments, will be featured in the fall 2016 edition of The PhotoBook Review issue 011 (published by Aperture Foundation), to be released at Paris Photo.

HOW TO ENTER



Institutions, publishers and photographers may enter online at aperture.org/photobookawards beginning on May 16, 2016. Entries will not be accepted after September 9, 2016.

An initial jury composed of Ann-Christin Bertrand (curator, C/O Berlin), David Campany (writer, curator and artist) Lesley A. Martin (creative director, Aperture), Becky Senf, (Chief Curator and Norton Family Curator of Photography at the Center for Creative Photography, and Christoph Wiesner (artistic director, Paris Photo) will meet in New York to select the short list in all categories.

The shortlist will be announced at the Opening Days of the European Month of Photography at C/O Berlin, September 30, 2016.

The final winners in each category will be determined at the fair by a separate jury, to be announced.
