New Category: Photography Catalogue of the Year
Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation announce the 2014 edition of The Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards, celebrating the book’s contribution to the evolving narrative of photography, as well as the introduction of a third award category, Photography Catalogue of the Year, which joins the PhotoBook of the Year and First PhotoBook awards.

The First PhotoBook Prize
A $10,000 prize will be awarded to the photographer(s)/artist(s) whose first finished, publicly available photobook is judged to be the best of the year. Twenty books from this category will be selected for the shortlist, presented to the Jury for the final selection and exhibited during Paris Photo.
The PhotoBook of the Year Prize
This prize will be awarded to the photographer(s)/artist(s), and publisher responsible, for the photobook judged to be the best of the year. Ten books from this category will be selected for the shortlist, presented to the Jury for the final selection and exhibited during Paris Photo.
The Photography Catalogue of the Year Prize
Awarded to the publication, publisher, and/or organizing institution responsible for the exhibition catalogue or museum publication judged to be the best of the year. Five books from this category will be selected for the shortlist, presented to the Jury for the final selection and exhibited during Paris Photo.
The shortlisted books, accompanied by the jury’s comments, will be featured in the fall 2014 edition of The PhotoBook Review (published by Aperture Foundation). This issue will be released at Paris Photo. Copies will be also be available at the Aperture Gallery and Bookstore, as well as distributed with Aperture magazine and through other distribution partners. Prize-related contents will be viewable on the Aperture website.
HOW TO ENTER
Institutions, publishers and photographers may enter online at aperture.org/photobookawards beginning on May 5, 2014. Entries will not be accepted after September 12, 2014.
The Awards will be judged in two stages. An initial jury that includes photographer Todd Hido will meet in New York to select the shortlist of thirty-five books. Additional shortlist jurors are to be announced. The final winners in each category will be determined by a separate jury, to be announced, that will meet in Paris during Paris Photo.
AWARDS CEREMONY: November 14 at Paris Photo
THE PHOTOBOOK REVIEW
The PhotoBook Review 007 published by Aperture will present the thirty-five preselected books and will be released in November 2014.
THE PARIS PHOTO-APERTURE FOUNDATION SHORTLIST EXHIBITION
The thirty-five shortlisted books will be displayed at Paris Photo in the Publishers dedicated space. After Paris Photo, the exhibition will travel to Aperture Gallery in New York and to other venues to be determined.
